Late Afternoon Sun Trap
The owners of this property in Roke, South Oxfordshire, were enjoying a cup of tea on their patio one afternoon when they asked themselves why they had never made better use of a corner of the garden that was drenched in sun late in the afternoons.

In just a week, we turned an unused patch of lawn in the corner of a large garden into a space to relax and enjoy.

A fun addition was the central water feature, a circular fountain, complete with large pebbles, which recirculates water from a sump in the ground.

While we were hooking up the electric pump for the water feature, we also added power points behind the seats.

The seats are perfectly positioned for enjoying a warm evening watching the sun go down. We built oak seating using the same materials as for the planters, but planed to a smooth finish.

This quadrant was built to measurements drawn up by the owners, transforming a rarely-used patch of lawn into a brickwork seating area with sandstone slabs. We used some leftover variegated pink and grey slabs to lay stepping stones from the nearby pergola.
